Former Ukrainian defense minister Fedorov becomes adviser to Italy’s defense chief
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has become an adviser on defense innovation to Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, bringing Ukraine’s experience in technology-driven warfare to Italy’s defense sector.
Fedorov announced the appointment after meeting Crosetto in Italy during an international trip focused on digitalization and defense technology.
“In this role, I will help Italy develop modern warfare technologies, improve its defense sector and adapt to new global security challenges,” Fedorov said.
He stressed that his main focus remains his work in Ukraine on projects aimed at strengthening the country’s defense and attracting international resources.
During the meeting, Fedorov and Crosetto discussed drones, autonomous systems, air defense and the development of the defense-tech ecosystem.
“Ukraine and our team have unique experience in technological warfare that we are ready to share with our partners,” Fedorov said.
He argued that countries capable of quickly testing and scaling new technologies while combining innovation with strong manufacturing would shape the future of defense.
“Ukraine’s experience can become the basis for a new defense model for Europe,” he added.
Crosetto first publicly revealed the offer in late July, saying he had called Fedorov the day after he stepped down as Ukraine’s defense minister and invited him to come to Rome and work as his adviser.
Fedorov said the Italy visit was the first stop on a broader international trip, with further meetings planned with partners on digitalization, defense technology and new projects.
