Official who was shot in Zaporizhzhia complained about threats from regional governor
The deceased official of Zaporizhzhia City Council Maxim Denshchik, who was shot this morning by an unknown assailant, previously complained about the pressure and threats of "retaliation by law enforcement" from the head of Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, Denschik wrote on Facebook on May 2.
"I want to officially declare the pressure on me from ZOMA chairman Ivan Fedorov! The latter ‘on good terms’ offered me several times to resign from the position of my own free will. I refused because I believe that I am honestly and conscientiously fulfilling my duties," the deceased official wrote.
According to him, after refusing to resign, Fedorov "directly and through various people" threatened Denshchik "with reprisals from the law enforcement agencies."
The governor did not comment on the accusation. After the report of Denshchik's murder, Fedorov said that he held a meeting with law enforcement agencies and took the investigation of the murder "under special control."
"Zaporizhzhia is not a place for criminal clashes. Therefore, together with the law enforcement officers, we will carry out preventive work to eradicate crime in the regional center. Particular attention is paid to strengthening measures for the safety of city residents on the streets. We are working proactively," wrote the head of the regional military administration.
On the morning of June 11, an unknown person fired four shots at Denschik with a firearm and disappeared from the scene. The victim died in hospital. Police are still looking for the attacker.
Until May, Maxim Denshchik held the position of director of the Department of Legal Support of Zaporizhzhia City Council, but he was temporarily suspended for the duration of the official investigation.
