Armed Forces of Ukraine forced Russians to retreat near Syrotyne and Hirske in Luhansk Oblast

Russian troops conducted an assault on Syrotyne (the village near Severodonetsk) and Hirske in Luhansk Oblast, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces caused numerous losses to the enemy and forced it to retreat, reports Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Haidai. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirms the information about Russia's retreat near Syrotyne.
Haidai also reported that the artillery shelling damaged nine houses in Hirske and six in Zolote in Luhansk Oblast.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces repulsed 11 attacks in Donbas on May 16, destroying the Russian Tor missile system, 5 tanks, 6 artillery systems (including three multiple rocket launchers), 12 armored vehicles, and 1 car. Ukrainian Air Defense units shot down one Su-25 aircraft and three Orlan-10-class drones.
Situation in the region
The occupiers do not abandon plans to establish control over Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. During the last week, Ukrainian Armed Forces repulsed 93 Russian attacks in Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts, destroyed 58 tanks, almost 100 units of combat vehicles, and other Russian equipment.
On May 16, Russian troops attacked 25 settlements in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, killing 20 civilians, including a child.
