Deadly Attacks In Ukraine Move Further Into Govt-Controlled Areas

The east Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk and the nearby area of the Ukrainian military headquarters were allegedly shelled by pro—Russian separatists.

The east Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk and the nearby area of the Ukrainian military headquarters were allegedly shelled by pro-Russian separatists. Both residents and the Ukrainian authorities were taken off guard by the attack as the city is located well within Ukrainian-controlled territory.

“We know that rockets were launched from the town of Horlivka”, Oleksandr Kikhtenko, Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration, told journalists. According to Kikhtenko, the militants used cluster munitions. In total, 18 rockets were fired on residential areas of the city and 14 hit the area near the Ukrainian military’s main headquarters. Oleksandr Turchynov , Head of the Ukrainian National Security Council, later reported that 15 people were killed in the attack and a further 63 were injured.
