Death of child in hospital, smoke on Crimean Bridge, Ukraine's successes near Robotyne: highlights
An 11—year—old boy died in a Dnipro hospital after surgery, allegedly due to medication. Russians claimed to have shot down missiles near the Crimean Bridge, sharing photos of everything in smoke on social media. The Ukrainian military had partial success near Robotyne in southern Ukraine. Here are the main news of August 12.
Boy dies in a hospital
An 11-year-old boy died after surgery at the Rudnev City Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital for Mother and Child in Dnipro. Another 11 people were also affected in the hospital. Preliminarily, due to a drug for intravenous anesthesia.
"The batch of drugs suspected of having side effects was quarantined and withdrawn from circulation in the medical institution. The State Service of Ukraine on Medicines and Drugs Control is also conducting its own investigation, based on the results of which it will make appropriate management decisions," the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
Law enforcers have launched an investigation into the possible improper performance of professional duties by medical workers
Crimean Bridge in smoke
On August 12, the Russians twice announced the alleged shooting down of missiles near the Crimean Bridge.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that the air defense in Crimea "timely detected and intercepted in the air" an alleged Ukrainian missile. Russia traditionally blames Kyiv for this attack, but neither the Ukrainian authorities nor the military command have commented on the incident.
At the same time, Telegram channels published footage of smoke around the bridge.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry said that in the early hours of August 12, 20 drones attacked the temporarily occupied Crimea. The occupiers claimed to have shot them all down.
Registration of merchant ships
Ukraine has started registering merchant ships that are ready to sail through temporary corridors in the Black Sea to Ukrainian ports. Shipowners and ship captains were warned about the threat from the occupiers and the danger of mines.
The temporary corridors should help to overcome the international humanitarian crisis and allow companies to pick up ships that are in "humanitarian captivity" due to Russia's threats.
The situation at the front
The American Institute for the Study of War reported that on August 11, Ukrainian troops made a significant tactical advance in the western Zaporizhzhya Oblast.
ISW noted that geolocation footage confirms that Ukrainian troops have reached the northern outskirts of the village of Robotyne (10 kilometers south of Orikhiv).
The ability of Ukrainian forces to advance to the outskirts of Robotyne, which Russian troops have deployed significant forces to defend, is significant, even if Ukrainian gains there are currently limited, the ISW report said.
