Death of policemen in Kherson Oblast and energy equipment from the USA: today's highlights

Two more policemen who hit Russian mines in Kherson Oblast died in hospital, the EU imposed new sanctions against Russian citizens and companies, and the US will provide Ukraine with equipment to rapidly restore energy facilities. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.

New EU sanctions

The EU Council decided to impose restrictive measures against 141 more individuals and 49 organizations in response to the escalation of Russian military aggression against Ukraine. In particular, the sanctions list includes the Russian armed forces, State Duma, and Federation Council members, ministers, and governors.

The sanctions were also imposed against the daughters of the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, actor Grigory Leps, TV presenter Boris Korchevnikov, the United Russia party, etc.

EU recognizes Ukraine's progress in implementing recommendations

The Council of the European Union acknowledged the efforts that Ukraine has demonstrated in implementing the seven recommendations of the European Commission necessary to start negotiations on EU membership. A preliminary assessment is due in spring.

Two more policemen who hit Russian mines in Kherson Oblast on December 7 died in hospital due to severe injuries. Thus, the death toll increased to six. Doctors fought for the lives of Senior Police Sergeant Viktor Mazurenko and Lieutenant Mykhailo Pustovit for ten days.

Equipment for the restoration of energy facilities from the United States

The United States promises to provide equipment to rapidly restore Ukrainian energy facilities after the Russian attacks. The first shipment of emergency repair equipment has already arrived in Ukraine.

Hungary has already frozen €870 million of Russian assets

Hungary as of the end of November froze Russian assets worth €870 million, although only 3 thousand euros were frozen in the country a month ago. In total, EU countries have already frozen almost €19 billion of private assets related to sanctioned Russians.

Warehouse with stolen spare parts for aircraft found in Lviv

Law enforcement officers found a warehouse with stolen spare parts for military aircraft in a market pavilion in Lviv. Components worth hundreds of millions of hryvnias were stored there. According to the investigation, they were stolen from the territory of a defense enterprise.

According to experts, the seized spare parts belong to the category of scarce components. Therefore, they will be transferred to the needs of the Armed Forces as soon as possible, the Prosecutor General's Office said.
