Donald Trump, the American Presidential Candidate has some connections to Russia, mostly in the form of attempted real estate deals and alleged Russian financing of his projects in the United States. But the most striking links come from his advisers. His foreign policy adviser Carter Page is a longtime investor in Gazprom, explains Josh Kovensky, a reporter at the Kyiv Post. Trump’s campaign Manager Paul Manafort has been involved in business with Oleg Deripaska, as well as Ukrainian oligarchs Dmytro Firtash and Rinat Akhmetov, both of whom have close business ties to Russia. Most notably, he was a key adviser to pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych.

Manafort got involved in a TV deal with Party of Regions members in Odesa, as well, in which $25 million in investments from Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska disappeared. "Some of them later went on to try and found the Odesa’s People republic,” says Kovensky.

Both Carter Page and Lt. General Michael Flynn both favor and advocate for closer U.S. relations with Russia. Both have made statements “very much in line with the Kremlin view that the U.S. and Russia should forget about differences over Eastern Europe and ally in a bid to fight the Islamic State.”
