Liberation of Klishchiyivka, explosions in Sevastopol: highlights
The Ukrainian military de—occupied the village of Klishchiyivka in Donetsk Oblast. Explosions were heard in the temporarily occupied Sevastopol. Russia added the head of Kherson, Ihor Kolykhayev, to the list of prisoners. Here are the highlights of September 17.
De-occupation of Klishchiyivka
On September 17, the Ukrainian Defense Forces liberated Klishchiyivka in the Bakhmut sector of Donetsk Oblast. The village has been cleared of Russians.
Klishchiyivka was de-occupied by the 80th separate airborne assault brigade, the 5th separate assault brigade, and the United Assault Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine "Liut" ('Rage').
Explosions in Sevastopol
In the temporarily occupied Sevastopol in Crimea, on the evening of September 17, locals reported hearing explosions near Cape Fiolent. The Russian Defense Ministry announced the downing of two drones over the peninsula.
Sources of public broadcaster Suspilne reported that the explosions in Sevastopol were a joint special operation of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense and the Ukrainian Navy.
The Crimean Wind Telegram channel suggests that the explosions occurred near a radio intelligence unit or an air defense unit of the Russian army.
Russia admits to capturing Kherson mayor
The International Committee of the Red Cross has confirmed the status of the captured mayor of Kherson, Ihor Kolykhayev. The occupiers abducted him on June 28, 2022.
It is currently unknown where Kolykhayev is and what his health condition is, but it appears that Russia is ready to exchange him.
Another Russian attack on Ukraine
During the night of September 17, the Russian occupation forces attacked Ukraine with air-launched cruise missiles and attack drones.
In total, the Armed Forces of Ukraine recorded 16 aerial targets. The Ukrainian military shot down 12 air targets: six drones and the same number of missiles.
The main area of attack was the south of Odesa Oblast. Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Oblast Military Administration, said that the attack took place in Berezivka district. Russian occupants damaged agricultural infrastructure there: farmland and a grain storage facility.
