Prominent Ukrainian-Belarusian journalist Pavel Sheremet lost his life in a car bombing in downtown Kyiv precisely two years ago. The ongoing investigation is yet to produce any answers and his murderers remain unpunished.

Sheremet’s murder shook the global journalistic community and those who followed his work, but one of the people most affected by his death was his mother, Liudmila Sheremet.

Liudmila has not given up on the hope of one day finding out why her son was targeted in this way. However, after two years of fruitless investigation, it’s hard to stay positive. Liudmila has even met with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko twice, as well as the investigative team, who could only convey their wish that the case be finally resolved. Liudmila says bringing Sheremet’s killers to justice is a personal matter of honor for the Ukrainian President.

Hromadske traveled to Minsk, Belarus, to speak to Liudmila and find out her perspective on the investigation, what life is like without her son, and her hopes for the future.
