Statement by the UN Security Council

For the first time since February 24, the UN Security Council approved an official statement on the situation in Ukraine, but did not mention the war, conflict or invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops. The short text, adopted on Friday, was proposed by Norway and Mexico. But the official statements of the UN Security Council are approved by consensus, i.e. together with Russia.

In the statement, the Security Council "expresses deep concern regarding the maintenance of peace and security of Ukraine" and "recalls that all Member States have undertaken, under the Charter of the United Nations, the obligation to settle their international disputes by peaceful means".

Help from the United States

U.S. President Joe Biden has announced a new security package for Ukraine. It provides additional artillery ammunition, radar and other equipment.

Biden stressed that his administration had almost exhausted funding that could be used to send aid, and called on Congress to provide funding quickly to strengthen Ukraine "on the battlefield and at the negotiating table."

The first trial over full-scale Russian invasion

The court received the first case of full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine. An indictment has been filed against Russian General Denis Lyamin. He led the invasion of Ukraine from the temporarily occupied Crimea.

According to Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova, in order to motivate his soldiers to kill Ukrainians, Lyamin justified these actions by the Kremlin's methods "by the need to protect Russian-speaking residents" from "Ukrainian nationalists and fascists" invented by the Russians themselves. He also promised his subordinates the payment of an additional three salaries and a daily allowance of $100, which they never received.

Assistance from Estonia

Estonia promises to help Ukraine with the restoration of Zhytomyr Oblast and the demining of the liberated territories, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of this country Eva-Maria Liimets.

Tallinn also fully supports Ukraine's accession to the EU. "We would like to note the great work that has been done to complete the EU questionnaire. We continue to support Ukraine in various ways, in all possible ways," the minister said.

Destruction of the museum in Kharkiv Oblast

On the night of May 7, the occupiers destroyed the Hryhoriy Skovoroda National Museum in Kharkiv Oblast with a rocket. A fire broke out there that spread to all rooms.

As a result of the Russian attack, the 35-year-old son of the museum's director, who guarded the building, was wounded. He has already been pulled out from under the rubble and hospitalized with a leg injury.

Successes of the Armed Forces in the south

On May 6, the Ukrainian military in the south of the country destroyed 21 occupiers and 7 units of equipment, including the Tor anti-aircraft missile system on Snake Island, which was ready for use.

The Ukrainians also managed to destroy the Orlan-10 drone, which was conducting reconnaissance in Mykolayiv Oblast, four self-propelled howitzers and the Grad multiple rocket launcher.

Conscripts in the army of the Russian Federation

The Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in Crimea Tamila Tasheva stated that the Russian authorities are sending conscripts from the occupied Crimea to the war against Ukraine.

The official also says that many people from the peninsula have already died at the front. According to her, only open data show that at least 72 military funerals have taken place in Crimea recently, 41 of which are natives of the peninsula.

Chernihivske in Belgium

Ukrainian beer Chernihivske will be produced in Belgium. The bottling line has already been opened at the InBev plant in Leuven. $5 million in profits are expected from the sale of beer — all the money will go to humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
