New military assistance from US, strike on Russian deployment point: highlights of the day

The White House confirmed the allocation of a new military aid package to Ukraine worth over $3 billion, the General Staff of the Armed Forces confirmed the strike on the Russian positions in Kherson Oblast resulting in 100 Russian soldiers being wounded. We have collected the main news for the day.

New military assistance from the United States

The United States has allocated Ukraine a new military aid package worth more than $3 billion. The Pentagon revealed the details of the new military aid package. It includes:

  • 50 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles with 500 TOW anti-tank missiles and 250,000 rounds of 25mm ammunition;
  • 100 M113 armored personnel carriers;
  • 55 mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles (MRAPs);
  • 138 High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV);
  • 18 155 mm self-propelled howitzers and 18 ammunition support vehicles;
  • 70,000 155 mm artillery rounds;
  • 500 precision-guided 155-mm artillery rounds;
  • 1,200 155 mm rounds of remote anti-armor mine system (RAAM) systems;
  • 36 105-mm towed howitzers and 95,000 105-mm artillery rounds;
  • 10,000 120 mm mortar rounds;
  • additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
  • RIM-7 air defense missiles;
  • 4,000 Zuni aircraft rockets;
  • approximately 2,000 anti-tank rockets;
  • sniper rifles, machine guns and ammunition for grenade launchers and small arms;
  • Claymore anti-personnel munitions;
  • night vision devices and optics;
  • spare parts and other field equipment.

Strike on Russian deployment point

On January 5, the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck the occupiers' deployment point in Havrylivka Druha, Kherson Oblast. Reports suggest that up to 100 wounded Russian servicemen were brought to local hospitals. Information about the killed Russians is still being clarified.

Permission to conduct service

The Orthodox Church of Ukraine was allowed to hold a Christmas service in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) accused the OCU of "forceful seizure" of the Assumption Cathedral through "blackmail and misleading the public".

Shelling of fire station in Kherson

Russian troops shelled the second fire station in Kherson in two days. One rescuer was killed as a result of the attack. Four more were injured. One of the victims is in critical condition, the other three are in stable condition. They were hospitalized.

Other news

  • Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation conducted searches at the residence of the Russian protege Vladimir Saldo. In the estate of the collaborator and in the places of residence of his associates, they found Russian documents with direct instructions to commit crimes against Ukraine;
  • as a result of the Russian shelling of the village of Prymorske, Zaporizhzhya Oblast, on January 5, two people were killed and more were wounded;
  • a woman who was wounded as a result of a missile strike on December 29 died in Kyiv;
  • The United Arab Emirates donated 2,500 generators to Ukraine in December and January as part of the $100 million humanitarian aid.
