The US Congress wants to approve about $50 billion for Ukraine before the Republicans take power and the White House confirms the deployment of Iranian troops in Crimea. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.
Tens of billions from the US are possible
Amid fears that the new Congress may be more skeptical of aid to Ukraine after the election, incumbent lawmakers from the Democratic and Republican parties are seeking to secure tens of billions of dollars in military aid to Kyiv.
The new aid package could reach about $50 billion, sources told NBC. The current Congress wants to provide a much higher level of military and other aid to Ukraine than previous packages in time for the elections.
Iranian military in Crimea
The White House said the US has evidence of deploying a “relatively small number” of Iranian troops in Crimea to help the Russians launch Iranian-made drones against Ukraine.
The administration of US President Joe Biden is considering the possibility of introducing new sanctions against Tehran and will look for ways to make it more difficult for Iran to sell such weapons to Russia.
Energy consumption restrictions will continue
Temporary restrictions on energy consumption will be possible throughout Ukraine on October 21. Ukrenergo noted that they will inform tomorrow morning about the regions in which there will be restrictions.

Ukraine requested Serbia to extradite Naumov
Ukraine has sent a request to Serbia for the extradition of Andrii Naumov, the former head of the Main Directorate of Internal Security of the Security Service of Ukraine, who was detained there four months ago.
In Ukraine, he is suspected of treason and helping Russian troops seize the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
Fighting in the south

The UK joined the sanctions against Iran
The United Kingdom introduced new sanctions against Iran for supplying Russia with kamikaze drones, which were used to bomb Ukraine. They correspond to measures approved by the EU the day before.
Thus, three people and one organization, who are considered responsible for supplying Russia with drones, will be sanctioned. Their assets will be frozen and they will be banned from entering the country.
Zelenskyy about a possible terrorist attack at Kakhovka HPP
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the aggregates and the dam of the Kakhovka HPP were mined by Russian terrorists. And if the Russians are preparing for a terrorist attack, they realize that they cannot hold the entire south of Ukraine, including Crimea.
He noted that now everyone in the world should act “strongly and quickly” to prevent another such Russian terrorist attack. According to him, undermining the dam would mean a large-scale disaster.
