Russia hits center of Chernihiv with ballistic missile. Casualties reported
On the morning of August 19, Russian occupation forces struck the center of Chernihiv. According to preliminary data, it was a ballistic missile. There are dead and wounded. The death toll is seven people — a 6—year—old girl died in hospital. Another 117 people were wounded.
Among the wounded are about 10 children. There are also police officers and court security officers among them. These are all civilians who were either on the central square of Chernihiv or leaving a nearby church after the consecration of fruit, the Interior Ministry said.

The strike hit the drama theater in the very center of the city. The hit destroyed the roof of the drama theater and started a fire. The windows of the 3rd State Fire and Rescue Unit of Chernihiv were also damaged. Rescuers also extinguished a fire in a store.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy showed the consequences of the missile attack on Chernihiv and wrote: "This is what it means to live next to a terrorist state. This is what we are uniting the entire world against. Today, a Russian missile hit the heart of Chernihiv. A square, a university, and a theater. Russia turned an ordinary Saturday into a day of pain and loss."
Social media users note that at the time of the attack, an exhibition of drones was taking place in the center of Chernihiv. It was announced a week ago for August 19, 10 a.m.
The air raid alert in Chernihiv and the region had been in place since 11:20. The Armed Forces of Ukraine first reported a missile threat there, and later the threat of enemy attack drones.
