Searches of Chernihiv and Sumy mayors, military assistance from Denmark and United States: highlights for October 26
The acting mayors of Chernihiv and Sumy were searched. Denmark and the United States announced new military aid to Ukraine, including tanks, armored personnel carriers, and ammunition. Searches of the mayors of Chernihiv and Sumy
On the morning of October 26, the acting mayors of Chernihiv Oleksandr Lomako and Sumy Yulia Pavlyk were searched.
The State Bureau of Investigation explained that they were checking the legality of Lomako's stay abroad. The official himself believes that the SBI came to him with a search a day after his post about the attempt of the city military administration and its head, Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, to allegedly avoid responsibility for the tragedy in the Chernihiv drama theater.
At the same time, the searches in Sumy City Council are related to the procurement of winter clothing for the city's volunteer units.
Military assistance from Denmark and the United States
The Danish government announced the allocation of the 13th package of military aid to Ukraine. It includes tanks, armored personnel carriers, ammunition, and other equipment. The cost of the aid is 3.7 billion Danish kroner (about $500 million).
Denmark said that Ukraine is receiving equipment and ammunition that is already in demand in Ukraine and is extremely important for maintaining the military power of the Defense Forces.
The United States has also allocated $150 million in military aid to Ukraine. Among other things, the package includes additional ammunition for NASAMS and HIMARS, AIM-9M air defense missiles, and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles.
Slovakia's prime minister opposes aid to Ukraine
The newly appointed Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico said he would not support military aid for Ukraine in the war with Russia.
"It is better to let them negotiate peace for 10 years than to kill each other for 10 years without any conclusions," Fico said.
He also noted that Russia has more territorial gains in the war than Ukraine.
The number of Ukrainians killed in Israel has increased
The number of Ukrainian citizens killed in Israel has risen to 21. One more Ukrainian is still missing.
In addition, three Ukrainians were killed in the Gaza Strip, including two children. In the enclave, six Ukrainians also sustained injuries of varying severity, three of them children.
Taxi driver kicked out passengers because they spoke Ukrainian
In Kyiv, a taxi driver kicked out passengers because they demanded to be served in the state language.
Language Ombudsman Taras Kremin said that he is already preparing an appeal to the relevant authorities regarding the incident, including the National Police and the Bolt transportation service company, to identify the offender and bring him to justice.
According to the survey, 45% of Ukrainians believe that there is discrimination on the basis of language in Ukraine.
