#HromadskeDavos 2016. The Millennials Gap In Governing

Public Service and Millennials: Closing the Generational Gap

Public Service and Millennials: Closing the Generational Gap. The Hromadske and Shaping Davos livecast show.

The Show's Story:

Millennials all around the globe consistently rate the public sector as the least adapted to their current needs and future expectations. How can the public sector attract the best and the brightest from future generations?

We are going to talk about the issue that so many people are struggling with: how to make governments more inclusive for young people, who very often are the most energetic agents of change. Specifically our focus is on Millennials. This is an ‘it-term’ that describes a generation of current 25-35-years-old young people, who have a fascinating shared identity crossing borders and cultures. Many like to call them the first generation of globalization. In coming couple of decades they are expected to overtake the world politically and economically. But for many the waiting is not acceptable and they want to start shaping their future already now. With worsening climate change, international terrorism, economic and social inequality, and other global challenges, many millennials are skeptical about the ability of current elites to manage the world effectively. So, how do we fix the obvious deficit of young people in governing?

 During the show we try to figure out:

- Understanding the nature of the growing generational disconnect;

- Finding the ways to engage millennials at the municipal, state and national levels;

- Redesigning career paths in public service for millennials.

Global Shapers communities in Monterrey, Mumbai, Tunis and Kyiv will join the discussion online.
