Suspension of 128th Brigade commander, death of Zaluzhnyi's assistant and shelling of Odesa: highlights for November 6
The commander of the 128th Brigade was suspended for the duration of the investigation after 19 soldiers were killed in a Russian strike. 128th Brigade confirms deaths of soldiers
The 128th separate mountain assault brigade of the Zakarpattia region reported the death of 19 of its soldiers as a result of a missile attack by Russian troops.
Sources from the 128th Brigade told hromadske that the brigade's commander, Dmytro Lysiuk, was late for the event dedicated to the Day of Rocket and Artillery Troops, which was organized near the front line in Zaporizhzhia region. The soldiers waited for the brigade commander for more than half an hour, and then he arrived.
The State Bureau of Investigation has already begun investigating the circumstances of the deaths of soldiers and civilians as a result of the shelling.
During his evening address, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Lysiuk had been suspended for the duration of the investigation.
A UNESCO monument is damaged in Odesa
On the night of November 6, the Russian military attacked Odesa with Oniks and Iskander missiles. The missiles hit the city center and a mothballed industrial facility, but the debris and blast wave damaged high-rise buildings and the Art Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Most of the paintings from the museum were evacuated in advance. Canvases and paintings of the current exhibitions were not damaged.
Russians also launched Shahed drones at Odesa's port infrastructure. The air defense destroyed 15 drones, but the hits damaged warehouses, unloading equipment, and trucks with grain.
As a result of the nighttime Russian attack on Odesa, 8 local residents were reported wounded.
Zaluzhnyi's assistant killed in Kyiv region
Major Hennadii Chastiakov, whom the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi called his "assistant and close friend", was killed in the village of Chaiky in Kyiv region as a result of a grenade explosion.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that, according to the investigation, on his birthday, Chastiakov returned home from work with gifts from his colleagues and began to show them to his family. He took out a gift box with grenades of a new Western model. He showed one of the munitions to his son.
At first, the son of the serviceman picked up the munition and started to turn the ring. Then the serviceman took the grenade away from the child and pulled the ring, causing a tragic explosion.
Zelenskyy proposes to extend martial law
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has submitted draft laws to the Verkhovna Rada to extend martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine.
Currently, martial law and mobilization last until November 16. The President proposes to extend them for another 90 days, i.e. until February 14, 2024.
Ukraine is mass-producing a kamikaze drone
Ukraine, in cooperation with foreign partners, has launched mass production of a domestic kamikaze drone.
Ukroboronprom Director General Herman Smetanin said that it is an analog of Iranian "Shaheds", but there are more powerful models.
According to him, the record for combat range among such drones is about 1,000 kilometers.
