Tragedy at front, shipyard hit in Kerch, visit of President of European Commission: November 4 highlights

Russians struck at the soldiers of the 128th Brigade while they were lining up in a frontline village in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, sources tell hromadske. The Ukrainian military successfully attacked the maritime and port infrastructure in the temporarily occupied city of Kerch. President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen visited Kyiv to discuss Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

Tragedy at the front

The Russian military attacked a group of soldiers of the 128th separate mountain assault brigade of Zakarpattya Oblast when they were likely gathered for an award ceremony in honor of Artillery Day in the frontline zone of Zaporizhzhya Oblast. There are dead and wounded.

The General Staff and the brigade command have not officially reported this. However, hromadske sources confirmed the information.

According to the Center for Strategic Communications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russians fired an Iskander-M missile. Defense Minister Rustem Umerov expressed his condolences to the families of the killed soldiers and promised that all the circumstances of the incident would be probed.

The tragedy was also indirectly confirmed by the head of the Zakarpattya Oblast State Administration, Viktor Mykyta. On the evening of November 4, he called on residents and business owners to refrain from any entertainment events, concerts, etc. in the next few days.

He advised to visit churches and pray for Ukrainian defenders. The order to honor the fallen soldiers will be issued after official information and with the permission of the 128th Brigade, Mykyta added.

The members of the Zakarpattya Oblast Council also expressed their condolences to the families and friends of the fallen soldiers of the 128th Brigade.

Visit of the President of the European Commission to Kyiv

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen visited Kyiv on November 4. This is her sixth visit to the Ukrainian capital.

"I am here to discuss Ukraine's accession to the European Union, the EU's financial support for rebuilding Ukraine as a modern and prosperous democracy, and how we will continue to make Russia pay for its aggressive war," she said.

After his meeting with Ursula von der Leyen, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine does not ask for "concessions" on its way to the EU and fulfills all the recommendations provided by the European Commission.

Kerch shipyard hit

On the evening of November 4, the Ukrainian military successfully attacked the maritime and port infrastructure of the Zaliv shipyard in temporarily occupied Kerch.

A source in the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense confirmed that there were hits, but the information is still being clarified.

A number of local Telegram channels report that a small missile ship of the 22800 Karakurt project under construction was hit at a shipyard in Kerch.

Attacks

On the morning of November 4, Russian occupation forces shelled Kherson once again, injuring two residents.

In the afternoon, Russians dropped a shell on Beryslav in Kherson Oblast, wounding two people, including a police officer.

In the evening, Russian troops fired missiles at Poltava Oblast. According to preliminary information, one woman was killed. There are also wounded, their number has not yet been announced, but it is known that there are two children among them.

Situation near Avdiyivka

The Institute for the Study of War reported that the Russian occupation forces are preparing for a series of major assaults near the town of Avdiyivka in Donetsk Oblast, for which they are currently concentrating manpower and equipment nearby.

The analysts quote one Ukrainian military observer as saying that Russian troops are rapidly building fortifications in the rear areas near the zones of the proposed offensive on the Avdiyivka axis in order to bring reserves into the battle faster.

According to the UK Ministry of Defense, which cites its own intelligence, Russia may have lost approximately 200 armored vehicles in the last three weeks during the assault on Avdiyivka.

Dismissal of the commander of the SOF

Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov confirmed that the dismissal of Viktor Khorenko, commander of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces, was made at his request.

"Major General Khorenko is now needed in a certain area, he will continue to serve in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine," the minister explained.
