Ukrainian Navy confirms strike on Russian vessel in occupied Crimea

The Ukrainian Navy confirmed the strike on the Kommuna ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in temporarily occupied Crimea.

This was announced by Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy.

According to him, the nature of the damage is currently being verified.

“But the ship is incapable of performing its tasks anymore. This will be repeated until the Russians run out of ships or leave Crimea,” Pletenchuk emphasized.

In the morning of April 21, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that during the entire period of the full-scale Russian invasion, the Defense Forces destroyed 26 occupiers' ships and boats.

More about the attack

On the morning of April 21, explosions were heard in temporarily occupied Sevastopol. It was reported online that a fire had started on one of the ships in the bay. Local and OSINT resources wrote about the attack on the Kommuna rescue ship in Sukharna Bay of Sevastopol.

At the same time, Russian apointee in Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhayev claimed that “the military repelled an anti-ship missile attack on one of the ships”.

It should be noted that the Kommuna is the oldest ship in the Russian Navy and the oldest ship in the world that is actually in service and performing combat missions. By design, it is a catamaran. The Kommuna also serves as a submarine rescue ship.

In 2022, this vessel was sent to search for the Moskva missile cruiser, which sank on April 14 as a result of a Ukrainian missile strike.
