President Poroshenko stressed the importance of Ukraine's contribution in WW2: "8 million Ukrainians – it's the price that Ukraine paid. After the war, it was left in ruins". He also spoke about the necessity of preserving peace in the present day.
"I'm sad that I come to Ukraine amidst destabilising conflict in the East where nearly 7,000 people have been lost, along with so much destruction of your society", said Ban Ki-moon. He also emphasised that Ukraine is one of the founding members of the UN, and has provided help in many peacekeeping missions all around the world.
"The United Nations, and international community will continue to stand together with Ukrainian people", concluded Ban Ki-moon.
