Ukrainian Defense Intelligence hit a Russian speedboat in Crimea, and the Foreign Ministry does not recognize Putin as a legitimate president: highlights for May 6
Servicemen of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine's special forces hit a Russian speedboat “Mongoose” in temporarily occupied Crimea. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has no reason to recognize Russian President Vladimir Putin as a legitimate president. We have collected the main news for May 6.
Ukrainian Defense Intelligence hit a Russian boat
Soldiers of the special unit of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine Group 13 destroyed a Russian speedboat Mongoose. It was destroyed in the area of the Vuzka Bay of temporarily occupied Crimea using a Magura V5 marine drone.
The occupiers use the Mongoose as a multi-purpose high-speed vessel for patrolling the waters, fighting saboteurs, and search and rescue operations, according to intelligence. Its price reaches $3 million.
Putin's “inauguration” and the reaction of other states
On May 7, the “inauguration” of Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place. Many European countries have refused to participate in the celebrations on this occasion, including Lithuania, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Armenia, and Germany.
In contrast, France will send its ambassador to the event, indicating a potential split in the Western camp, as some countries are strongly opposed to granting Putin any form of legitimacy.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said on the eve of Putin's “inauguration” that it sees no legal grounds to recognize him as the legitimate head of Russia. The ministry also called on other states to follow suit.
Situation at the frontline
Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said that the main strike of Russian troops in eastern Ukraine is now aimed at the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions.
According to him, these are the areas where the main attack forces of the occupiers are concentrated, trying to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops.
“Our task in these conditions is to hold the occupied lines and positions, to inflict maximum losses on the enemy with artillery fire, attack UAVs and all means to exhaust him, thereby disrupting enemy plans and gaining time to form and prepare our reserves,” the Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief noted.
At the same time, the Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Group of Troops says that the Defense Forces control the situation around the town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, with active fighting going on there day and night.
The group's spokesperson, Nazar Voloshyn, says that the Russians periodically make “information injections” that their army has already entered the town. However, there is no Russian army in Chasiv Yar, he emphasizes.
Passports for Ukrainians abroad
The foreign branches of the state enterprise “Document” have resumed issuing ready-made documents to Ukrainians. It is still in test mode.
First of all, the documents will be issued to citizens of socially vulnerable categories who will receive a second notification about the readiness of passports for issuance, the company said.
To receive a ready document, you will need to:
- show a notification of passport readiness sent after April 25;
- show the applicant's identity document (for example, an e-passport in the Diia application);
- pass the verification procedure and check personal data.

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles says that the missiles promised by Madrid for the Patriot air defense system have already arrived in Ukraine.
At the same time, the Netherlands said that the promised F-16 fighter jets would start arriving in Ukraine this fall. Denmark, in turn, will deliver these aircraft this summer.
