Ukrainian MP Serhiy Shvets dies at 48
Serhiy Shvets, a Ukrainian parliament member from the Servant of the People party, died at 48 after a prolonged illness, faction leader David Arakhamia announced on Wednesday.
Arakhamiia said Shvets succumbed to a serious illness, stating, “Serhiy Shvets honorably walked his professional path—from journalism to work in Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada. We will remember him as an honest, decent, and principled person.”
What is known about Serhiy Shvets?
Born in 1976 in Cherkasy, Shvets began his career as a journalist, working as a correspondent and host for 1+1, STB, and ICTV.
Elected in 2019 as a non-partisan candidate from Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi district (district 214) for Servant of the People, he served as secretary of the Verkhovna Rada’s Committee on Freedom of Speech.
