Ukraine's anti-graft agencies expose lawmaker-led crime group
Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office announced the exposure of a criminal group led by a female lawmaker, according to a NABU statement.
The Bureau said the operation was conducted jointly with Ukraine's Security Service. Primary investigative actions are ongoing.
Law enforcement did not disclose the suspect's name, but Ukrainska Pravda reported it involves MP Anna Skorokhod from the For Future party. Searches are currently underway at her home.
According to UP sources, authorities documented the lawmaker and her accomplices extorting $250,000 from a businessman.
Skorokhod confirmed that her home had been searched. She stated that she saw this as "direct pressure on the opposition and an attempt to block political activity due to her principled position."
More about Anna Skorokhod
Skorokhod was born in Kyiv Oblast. She received her education at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts and the National Academy of Internal Affairs.
In 2019, she was elected as an MP from the Servant of the People party, but then left the faction. This happened amid reports that her husband was a Russian citizen who had been detained by law enforcement.
At the same time, faction leader David Arakhamia accused Skorokhod of not supporting any of the party's decisions and offering bribes to lawmakers.
In 2020, Skorokhod joined the For Future faction.
