EU preparing sanctions over deportation of Ukrainian children, Ukraine's foreign minister says
The European Union is preparing sanctions against 27 Russian individuals and entities accused of involvement in the deportation and indoctrination of Ukrainian children, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said.
Sybiha did not identify the individuals or organizations expected to be targeted or say when the sanctions could be imposed.
Ukraine says 103 children were returned home in August, bringing the total number of children returned to 2,525.
Sybiha said Ukraine was seeking broader international pressure on Russia and sanctions against individuals and organizations involved in the deportation, transfer and indoctrination of Ukrainian children.
Ukraine, Canada and Norway are also preparing an international conference in Toronto focused on the return of Ukrainian children, civilians and prisoners of war. New Zealand has joined the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children as its 51st member.
