Ukraine prepares to evacuate 527 people from Russian-occupied Oleshky via Belarus

Ukraine is preparing to receive 527 residents of Russian-occupied Oleshky in Kherson Oblast who are expected to travel to Ukrainian-controlled territory via Belarus, Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi said on October 30.

Speaking during a parliamentary question-and-answer session, Koretskyi said Ukrainian authorities were coordinating medical assessments, transportation and accommodation for the residents.

Preliminary medical examinations of those preparing to leave Oleshky were expected to be completed by 2 p.m. on October 30.

The Health Ministry will then prepare individual medical records to help organize assistance upon their arrival in Ukrainian-controlled territory.

According to the prime minister, the evacuees will travel through Belarus before crossing into Ukraine.

They will undergo further medical examinations in Chernihiv and Kyiv Oblast, receive initial medical assistance and be provided with clothing, hygiene supplies and other essentials.

The government has also prepared temporary accommodation in several Ukrainian regions.

Koretskyi thanked US First Lady Melania Trump for helping facilitate the agreement that made the evacuation preparations possible.

Earlier on October 30, Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets said 25 buses with a total capacity of 750 passengers had been prepared for the evacuation, along with ambulances for people with limited mobility.

The operation is taking place during a temporary ceasefire agreed for the Oleshky area, which is scheduled to remain in effect until November 1.

Ukrainian authorities have not yet confirmed that the 527 residents have completed their evacuation.
