Brazilian youth soccer match ends with 51 expulsions after mass brawl, surpassing Guinness record
A Brazilian under-20 soccer match ended with 51 players sent off after a mass brawl involving punches and kicks — a tally that exceeds the Guinness World Records benchmark of 36 expulsions in a single game, according to Brazilian sports outlet Globo Esporte.
The extraordinary incident occurred during a second-division Minas Gerais state youth championship match between Uberlândia and Mamoré, which Mamoré won 3–1.
The fighting erupted in the 54th minute of the second half, deep into stoppage time, after Mamoré scored its third goal. According to the referee's report, a Mamoré player made provocative gestures toward the opposing bench and shouted insults during the celebration.
A mass confrontation followed, with players exchanging punches and kicks.
Referee Fernando Patrick recorded 48 red cards for those involved in the brawl, in addition to three earlier dismissals for separate incidents.
The chaos prevented him from issuing the cards during play. Instead, he ended the match and documented the expulsions in his official report.
In total, 22 people from Uberlândia and 29 from Mamoré were sent off.
The referee also reported threats from Uberlândia officials earlier in the match and said he filed a police complaint against one club official. Damage to Mamoré's dressing room was also reported.
The previous Guinness World Records benchmark was 36 expulsions during a 2011 match between Argentine clubs Atlético Claypole and Victoriano Arenas, when all 18 players from each side — including substitutes — were dismissed following a brawl.
It was not immediately clear whether Guinness World Records had formally recognized the Brazilian match as a new record.
