Ukraine receives bodies of 252 people from Russia for identification

Ukraine has received the bodies of 252 people from Russia as part of repatriation efforts, the Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said on Sept. 17.

Russia says the bodies belong to Ukrainian citizens, including service members. Ukrainian authorities have not yet independently confirmed their identities.

Law enforcement investigators and Interior Ministry forensic experts will now conduct examinations to identify the bodies.

The International Committee of the Red Cross assisted with the repatriation, according to the Coordination Headquarters.
