Stabilization of Russian troops in the Kharkiv region
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have managed to stabilize Russian troops in the Kharkiv region where they are now. The deepest point of advance of the Russian occupiers is 10 kilometers.
At the same time, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said that by launching an offensive in the Kharkiv region, Russia has expanded the area of active hostilities by almost 70 kilometers. Ukraine must prevent further advancement of the occupiers and create conditions for their defeat.
Laws on mobilization signed
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law allowing certain categories of prisoners to be mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as a law to increase fines for evading military registration and other violations of mobilization rules.
Thus, for violation of the rules of military registration during martial law, persons liable for military service, conscripts and reservists may receive up to UAH 25,500 in fines. And for evading mobilization service during the war, citizens will have to pay up to UAH 25,500, while officials and legal entities will have to pay up to UAH 59,500.
Advertising of gambling with symbols of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is now limited
The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a resolution “On Counteracting the Negative Effects of Gambling on the Internet”, which restricts gambling advertising with military symbols and introduces some new rules.
Consular services for draftees abroad will be restored, but there is a nuance
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ordered to resume accepting applications from men of conscription age for consular services in foreign diplomatic missions. However, now, along with other documents, men will have to submit their military registration documents.
Attacks on military facilities in Russia and Crimea
The Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate conducted a special operation during which they attacked Russian military facilities located in the occupied Crimea and Russian cities on the Black Sea coast with drones.
The strikes targeted the Sevastopol Bay, the seaport in Novorossiysk, and the oil refinery in Tuapse. A fire at the refinery led to its emergency shutdown.
In total, on the night of May 17, Russia reported an attack by more than a hundred Ukrainian drones.
