The State Bureau of Investigation exposed the commander of the regional department of the Territorial Defense Forces "South" in Odesa, who involved his subordinate fighters in the construction of an estate. For their work, they received extra pay as for performing combat tasks on the front line.

The commander was charged with exceeding his official powers, which caused significant damage in the conditions of martial law - Part 5 of Art. 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to 12 years in prison.

The Cabinet of Ministers is asked to book employees of the State Emergency Service

A petition to the government with a call to ensure reservation from mobilization for all personnel of the fire protection and emergency services, operational rescue service and other civil defense workers received the necessary 25,000 votes.

Reservation is currently removed from some of the civil defense workers, but the employees of the State Emergency Service carry out an important mission in the rear, protecting citizens from fire and other emergency situations, and therefore require reservation.

Before his appointment, Sytnyk headed the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). He was the first head of this body and managed it in 2015-2022.

Detention in connection with the attack on Ukrainian volunteers in the Czech Republic

Czech police detained four foreigners at the Prague airport who are suspected of attacking Ukrainian volunteers who were collecting donations for Ukraine.

Investigators opened a criminal case against them on suspicion of committing several crimes. The police say that, based on newly discovered facts, the case will most likely be reclassified.

The new spelling will be finalized

The new Ukrainian spelling, to which Ukrainians were supposed to finally switch this year, contains "dozens of gross errors." The final modified version of the spelling is planned to be published at the end of 2024.

According to Pavlo Hrytsenko, director of the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the story of Ukrainian spelling in 2019 is "the story of volunteerism in solving language issues." He claims that that version of the Ukrainian spelling was not prepared in a high-quality manner.

The detention of the State Guard employee was extended

Artem Kosov, an employee of the Department of the State Guard, who is suspected of murdering a young man at the Kyiv funicular station, has been remanded in custody for another two months – until August 1. The court's decision can be appealed.

In the courtroom itself, relatives of the deceased 16-year-old Maksym Materukhin turned to Kosov, showing him the photos and posters they had brought.

Biden will not attend the Global Peace Summit

The White House announced that Vice President Kamala Harris and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will attend the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland on June 15-16. The two of them will represent the United States at the summit.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that if American President Joe Biden is not at the Peace Summit, "Putin will give this a standing ovation."
