US announces new aid package and European Commission supports start of accession talks with Ukraine: June 7 highlights

The United States allocates a new military aid package to Ukraine worth $225 million. The European Commission supported the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU. US President Joe Biden announced a new military aid package worth $225 million. In particular, the Ukrainian army will receive missiles for the HAWK and Stinger air defense systems, ammunition for the HIMARS system, and 155 mm and 105 mm artillery shells.

He met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in France. The two leaders discussed Ukraine's defense capabilities, the situation on the battlefield, and preparations for the signing of a bilateral security agreement.

European Commission supports Ukraine's accession negotiations

The European Commission has given a positive assessment of Ukraine's European integration progress and supported the start of EU accession negotiations. The conclusion states that Kyiv has fulfilled all 4 additional reform steps.

Meanwhile, the permanent representatives of the EU member states again failed to make a decision on the European Commission's recommendations to start negotiations with Ukraine on accession to the bloc. Hungary raised objections. Discussions will continue next week.

New procedure for allocating electricity limits

Starting June 8, a new procedure for applying hourly power outage schedules will be introduced in Ukraine in a test mode.

At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers has ordered all state authorities to reduce electricity consumption.

Former MP made money on fake disability certificates

Law enforcement officers exposed a group in Kyiv that was “earning” about $100,000 a month by producing fake disability certificates. Among the defendants is former MP Iryna Sysoienko.

The Holosiivskyi District Court of Kyiv imposed a pre-trial restraint on the former MP in the form of detention with an alternative bail of UAH 904,000. She has already paid the money and was released.

Government simplifies military registration for Ukrainians abroad

The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted amendments to resolutions regulating military registration and mobilization. In particular, citizens residing abroad will be able to register through foreign diplomatic missions, and they are not required to be present in person at the military registration and enlistment office.

In addition, the government has eliminated the requirement to submit a conclusion of the medical advisory commission on the need for constant care for people with group II disabilities.

Reservation for rescuers, police officers, defense industry workers and power engineers

The government has decided to reserve 90% of the personnel of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the National Police. The Interior Ministry assured that this decision would not affect the efficiency and effectiveness of the State Emergency Service.

The Cabinet of Ministers also authorized the reservation of up to 100% of employees of defense industrial and energy companies.

Pre-trial restraint imposed on attacker of volunteer in Kyiv, another wanted

The Obolonskyi District Court of Kyiv has imposed a pre-trial restraint on a 73-year-old man who is being tried for assaulting a volunteer. He was placed under round-the-clock house arrest.

The elderly man is being tried for committing hooliganism (Part 2 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces up to 4 years in prison.

At the same time, police identified and detained the second suspect in the attack.
