Romania reported explosions during Russia's overnight Shahed drone attack on Ukraine

During the Russian attack of Ukraine by Shahed strike drones, Romanian residents reported explosions on the territory of their country, Romanian outlets Digi24 and Știrile PRO reported.

Residents of the Tulcea district bordering Ukraine received a notification from the Ro-Alert system, which warned them about the threat of falling dangerous objects - such warnings usually come during Russian drone attacks on the port infrastructure of Ukraine on the Danube River.

Later, around 2 a.m., at least 10 people called 911 because of explosions they allegedly heard in their country. Online users reported that one of the Russian UAVs fell on the territory of the village of Plauru, which is located on the banks of the Danube near the city of Izmail in Odesa Oblast, which was under attack by the Russian military.

Officially, neither Romania nor Ukraine commented on this incident. This is not the first such case. On March 29, the Ministry of Defense of Romania reported on the discovery of fragments, probably of a drone, on agricultural land in Brăila County, which entered the territory of the country after the Russian attack on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

A similar incident happened in September 2023. Despite the fact that Romania is a member of NATO, at that time the Alliance declared that they had not seen any signs of an attack.

Overnight attack on Ukraine

Overnight, Russian troops attacked the city of Izmail in Odesa Oblast with Shahed 131/136 suicide drones. As a result of the enemy attack, at least three people were wounded as the Russians hit a five-story building.

The city's port infrastructure was under attack. There, as a result of the strike, several buildings were also destroyed, and three trucks were damaged. A fire also broke out on the spot, which was promptly extinguished by the employees of the State Emergency Service.
