Suspect in Farion's murder detained

An 18-year-old man suspected of murdering Iryna Farion has been detained in Dnipro. Investigators are currently inclined to believe that the shooter was only the contractor. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Dnipro resident had been preparing for the attack for at least two months. He is to be served with a notice of suspicion.

Schemes journalists found out the guy's name and found his father. He told us that he was in the military and had not seen his son for a long time, but he regularly talked to him on the phone. The man also said: “There were no motives for Farion's murder, he had no Ukrainophobic views, he was a patriot”.

Former mayor of Uman killed at the front

The former mayor of Uman, Cherkasy region, Oleksandr Tsebriy, died at the front of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

From the first days of the full-scale invasion, Oleksandr joined the Ukrainian army. The fallen soldier was the commander of a machine gun platoon of the 58th separate motorized infantry brigade, performing combat missions in the Donetsk region. In March 2024, Oleksandr was awarded the Order “For Courage” of the III degree.

Another air defense system for Ukraine

Spain will provide Ukraine with another battery of the Hawk air defense system. This battery should be ready by September.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands and Denmark have also promised to strengthen the Ukrainian army: by the end of this summer, they will hand over 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks that they bought last year.

Shaheds crashed in Romania during another Russian attack

On the night of July 25, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with 38 Shahed 131/136 attack drones. Ukrainian air defense shot down 25 enemy drones.

Another three Shaheds were lost after crossing the border with Romania, the Ukrainian Air Force said. Later, Romanian authorities announced that they had once again found the wreckage of Russian drones on the country's territory.

Harris officially joins the US presidential race

Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the United States, has officially announced that she will run for president.

“In this election, we each face a question. What kind of country do we want to live in? There are some people who think we should be a country of chaos, of fear, of hate. But us, we choose something different. We choose freedom,” the politician said.

The video she released features videos of her rivals, Donald Trump and his vice presidential candidate, James David Vance. Harris contrasted them with her policies.

National Guard says occupants will be on the defensive in a month

The commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pivnenko, believes that in a month and a half, Russian troops will not be able to conduct active assaults in many directions at once and will go on the defensive.

Precautionary measures for officials in the case of flooding of the Kyiv subway

The acting head of the Kyiv Metro, Viktor Vyhivskyi, has been imposed a measure of restraint in the form of round-the-clock house arrest until September 23. The same measure of restraint was imposed on the head of the service of track, tunnel structures and buildings of the utility enterprise.

This concerns the flooding of the tunnels between Demiivska and Lybidska metro stations. The case also involves the former head of the Kyiv Metro, Viktor Brahinskyi, but he has not yet been notified of suspicion.

Well-known local activist killed in Dnipro

A 32-year-old activist and head of the local trade union of road carriers, Mykhailo Tonkonohyi, was killed in Dnipro. Law enforcement officers have already found two male suspects.

According to the investigation, on July 22, the suspects agreed to meet with the activist. A conflict arose between them, as a result of which the man was shot six times. After that, the suspects threw the weapon into a pond, buried the body in a forest belt, and drove the victim's car to a pre-rented garage.

Svitolina to carry the Ukrainian flag at the opening of the 2024 Olympics

Tennis player Elina Svitolina will carry the Ukrainian flag at the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Paris.

The opening ceremony will take place on July 26 at 20:00. For the first time in the history of the Summer Olympics, it will be held not at a stadium, but in the center of Paris along its main river, the Seine.
