Ukrainian air defense shoots down Kh-59 missile, all 89 Shahed UAVs in one of most massive Russian drone attacks
Overnight, the Russian army attacked Ukraine with a Kh-59 air missile and 89 Shahed 131/136 attack drones. Air defense forces destroyed all air targets, reported Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk.
This was one of the most massive drone attacks during the entire period of full-scale war. The Russians released the same number of drones overnight on December 31, 2022.
Russia launched an air missile from the temporarily occupied Kherson Oblast, and attack drones from the Yeysk, Seshcha, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk regions of the Russian Federation. The main direction of the attack was Kyiv Oblast.
Mobile fire groups of all Defense Forces of Ukraine, tactical aviation of the Air Force and army aviation of the Ground Forces, anti-aircraft missile units and EW of the Air Force were involved in repelling the air attack.
Consequences of the attack
According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, more than 40 enemy drones were shot down over Kyiv and on the approaches to the capital. As a result of falling debris, a fire broke out in a private house, but there were no casualties.
In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, anti-aircraft fire destroyed 6 Shaheds. There were no casualties.
In Kherson Oblast, the Ukrainian military shot down nine enemy attack drones.
