Air raid alert across Ukraine. Energy sector under attack

On the morning of December 13, Russian troops launch a massive attack on Ukraine. Monitoring resources claim the launch of cruise missiles, as well as the takeoff of Russian bombers.

In some oblasts — Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Vinnytsia — the sirens have been sounding for several hours. The threat later spread to other regions.

At first, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported repelling an attack by Russian drones, but later monitoring resources announced the takeoff of Russian MiG-31K aircraft, which are carriers of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, and the launch of cruise missiles from the Black Sea.

In addition, the Air Force recorded the takeoff of several Tu-95MS strategic bombers from the Olenya airfield in Murmansk Oblast.

Against this backdrop, explosions are heard in some cities and regions of Ukraine. They were reported, in particular, by the mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov.

The local publication Dumska claims that as a result of the attack, electric transport is not working in the city and the water supply has been turned off. Meanwhile, air defense is working in Kyiv Oblast, the regional authorities said.

Later, the movement of missiles focused on western Ukraine — in the Ternopil, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts. Explosions were also heard there.

Due to attack on the western regions of Ukraine bordering Poland, the operational command of the Polish Armed Forces announced scrambling military aviation. Combat pairs of aircraft, ground-based air defense systems, and radar reconnaissance were involved in airspace surveillance.

According to Ukrainian Energy Minister German Halushchenko, the Ukrainian energy sector has been hit hard. Measures are currently being taken to minimize the negative consequences for the energy system, but the extent of the damage will be known later.

Ukrenergo has already announced that the number of outages will increase due to the massive attack. You can find out about them on the official resources of the regional energy company.
