Over 40 missiles and 70 drones hit Ukraine, targeting gas facilities and energy sector — Zelenskyy

The Russian military tried to attack Ukrainian energy and gas infrastructure. In total, the aggressor launched more than 40 missiles and 70 drones, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media.

According to him, air defenses managed to destroy at least 30 missiles.

The Air Force stated that in total, the Russians used 117 missiles and drones to attack Ukraine:

  • 1 Iskander-M/KN ballistic missile;
  • 7 Kh-22/32 cruise missiles from Tu-22M3 aircraft;
  • 4 Kalibr cruise missiles;
  • 27 Kh-101/Kh-55cm cruise missiles from Tu-95ms strategic bombers;
  • 4 Kh-59/Kh-69 guided aircraft missiles from tactical aircraft;
  • 74 Shahed strike drones and decoy drones of various types.

23 Kh-101, Kh-55cm cruise missiles, 3 Kalibrs, 4 Kh-59/Kh-69 missiles and 47 drones were shot down. Another 27 drones disappeared from radar.

The attack targeted Ukrainian energy facilities, in particular gas infrastructure in the Kharkiv, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts.

"It's the middle of winter, and the target for the Russians remains unchanged: our energy infrastructure. Among their objectives were gas and energy facilities that sustain normal life for our people," Zelenskyy said.

He also recalled that partners at the NATO summit in Washington and in the Ramstein format made promises that have not yet been fully fulfilled. In particular, this concerns licenses for the production of air defense and anti-missile systems to protect Ukraine.

Bloomberg previously wrote that the Ukrainian gas transportation system could become a target for Russian missile strikes after Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian gas.
