Ukraine produces one-third of required weapons, goal is 50%, PM Shmyhal says

Ukraine is capable of producing a third of the required number of weapons. The goal is to produce at least 50% of the required nomenclature, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said, according to RBC-Ukraine and Radio Liberty.

The production capacity of the domestic defense-industrial complex has reached $35 billion per year.

According to Shmyhal, over the past two years, Ukraine has tripled the production of artillery, armored personnel carriers — 5 times, anti-tank weapons — 2 times, and ammunition — 2.5 times.

Shmyhal also recalled the Danish model, under which Ukraine's partners pay for weapons produced here for the Defense Forces. According to the official, this model managed to attract almost $1 billion dollars in 2024.

Earlier, Deputy Defense Minister Ivan Havryliuk said that approximately 70% of the weapons used by the Ukrainian army on the battlefield are international assistance from partners. These include air defense systems, heavy armored vehicles, NATO caliber artillery ammunition, etc.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has reportedly suspended all US aid to Ukraine, including that which his predecessor Joe Biden had ordered to be allocated.

However, Economist journalist Oliver Carroll claims that Trump's decision to halt military aid, which was reported in the media, has not yet affected real action.

There was no official announcement of such a decision from either Trump himself or the White House.
