Russian strikes injure at least 10, damage apartment blocks in Sumy, Chernihiv oblasts

Russian forces attacked the Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts overnight into Monday, injuring people and damaging homes, according to local authorities and Ukraine's State Emergency Service.

Sumy regional governor Oleg Hryhorov said that Russian troops targeted the Okhtyrka territorial community with three strike drones, deliberately hitting civilian infrastructure.

The aggressor struck a nine-story building in Okhtyrka, causing a fire in apartments from the second to fifth floors.

The building suffered extensive damage. Some residents reached the basement upon hearing the threat; rescuers evacuated 35 others. They also freed seven people trapped in damaged apartments, including a child.

As the State Emergency Service noted, work had to be paused temporarily due to the threat of repeat attacks. The fire has been extinguished, but clearing damaged structures continues.

Local authorities said seven people were taken to hospital; two remain under medical care.

In the city of Chernihiv, a falling Russian drone also damaged a multi-apartment residential building. Three people were injured, one hospitalized.

The building's windows and gas pipeline were damaged. Rescuers extinguished the gas fire. SES psychologists have already assisted 24 people.
