Russian troops likely executed 7 Ukrainian civilians, including entire family, in Pokrovsk – commissioner
Russian troops likely executed seven Ukrainian civilians in Pokrovsk, including an entire family, Ukraine's Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets reported on Telegram.
From information circulated on social media on Monday, two Russian soldiers burst into a residential building basement where Ukrainians were sheltering.
Reports said two civilians — a father and son — approached the Russians, who demanded alcohol. When told there was none, the Russian soldiers opened fire and killed them.
The Russian troops then descended to the basement and shot the others. Among the dead was an entire family — a couple, their son and the woman's mother. According to Lubinets, only one wounded person survived by pretending to be dead.
The incident likely occurred overnight into December 21. The ombudsman said he learned of it on December 29 from social media and has sent official letters to the ICRC and UN.
The commissioner also stressed that such events in Pokrovsk are not isolated: "They fit into the systematic practice of violence that Russian forces apply against civilians in temporarily occupied territories and frontline areas of Ukraine."
He urged citizens to evacuate in time. If those wishing to leave cannot reach local or other hotlines — they should call the Ombudsman's Office hotline: 0800501720.
