Russia launches massive attack on Ukraine with drones and missiles. Kyiv and Kharkiv hit, among other areas
Russian forces launched a massive combined drone and missile attack on Ukraine overnight into Tuesday, targeting multiple cities, including Kyiv and Kharkiv, as well as the Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy oblasts, with strikes hitting residential buildings, energy infrastructure, and other civilian sites, according to Ukraine's Air Force and local officials.
The assault involved cruise missiles launched from Tu-95MS strategic bombers over the Caspian Sea area, likely Iskander-M/S-300 ballistic missiles, Kh-22/32 anti-ship missiles and Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles, as reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and monitoring channels.
Poland's Operational Command scrambled fighter jets and activated ground air defense and radar systems in a precautionary measure to safeguard its airspace near threatened zones.
Consequences of the attack on Ukraine
In Kyiv, as of this morning, the damage from the attack was recorded in several districts. In the Darnytskyi district, a fire broke out in a non-residential building: a 25-story building was damaged there. In another location in the district, a five-story building was damaged, said the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko.
In the Desnyanskyi district, a non-residential building was also damaged, and in the Dniprovskyi, a kindergarten and a five-story building were damaged. Meanwhile, in the Pecherskyi district, a gas station was hit, where parked cars and the gas station building were damaged. And in the Shevchenkivskyi district, a 22-story residential building was damaged by an enemy strike.

Kharkiv was also hit. Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported a missile attack, including a ballistic missile. During the hours of the attack, strikes were carried out "targeted at energy infrastructure."
Because of this, the city decided to drain the water from the heating system of 820 buildings, which are powered by one of the largest CHP plants, "to prevent the network from freezing." There are also possible disruptions in the operation of city electric transport. 101 "Points of Invincibility" will be deployed in the city.
In the Konotop territorial community of Sumy Oblast, Russian troops hit a private residential building. A large-scale fire broke out at the scene. Three people were rescued from the building — they were stressed and are being provided with assistance.
Two more Russian strikes hit multi-story buildings in the Sumy territorial community. There were no casualties, the Sumy regional military administration said.
The Russians also massively attacked Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with drones and missiles.
