Next Ukraine-Russia-US talks set for Geneva on February 17-18
The next round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States will take place February 17-18 in Geneva, Switzerland, with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aide Vladimir Medinsky leading Moscow’s delegation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday, according to state news agency TASS.
The Russian delegation in Geneva will be headed by Medinsky, who is an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin and a historian who led Moscow’s representatives during the first rounds of talks last year.
He is known, as Ukrainian delegation member Sergiy Kyslytsya once said, for his “endless pseudo-historical digressions,” including Medinsky’s claim that “Russia is ready to fight forever” and his reference to the 21-year war with Sweden in the 18th century.
This will be the first time the talks are held in a European country. Previous trilateral meetings took place in Türkiye, Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the next round of talks was likely to be held in the United States. Ukraine immediately agreed to a meeting in Miami, while the Russians are still “hesitating” about whether to hold it in the U.S. or in Abu Dhabi.
“We are ready — it doesn’t matter to us whether we meet in Miami or Abu Dhabi. The main thing is to get results,” Zelenskyy said.
