SBU drones strike major Russian chemical plant 1,600 km from Ukrainian border
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) special operations “Alpha” Center drones struck the Metafrax Chemicals plant — one of Russia’s and Europe’s largest methanol producers — in Perm Krai more than 1,600 kilometers from the Ukrainian border overnight into Tuesday, an informed SBU source told hromadske.
The facility produces methanol, urotropine, carbamide and pentaerythritol — key chemical components used in explosives and other military-purpose materials — and is part of Russia’s defense-industrial complex under international sanctions.
Russian Telegram channels reported at least six explosions on the plant grounds, an evacuation of workers and preliminary damage to the methanol production unit.
“The SBU continues to systematically target enterprises that supply Russia’s military-industrial complex with raw materials and components for weapons production,” the SBU source stated. “Striking such facilities slows ammunition output, complicates resource supply to the army and directly reduces the intensity of combat operations against Ukraine.”
