Ukrainian air defenses down most Russian missiles and drones overnight
Ukraine’s air defense forces intercepted the majority of Russian air assets launched in a massive assault overnight into Tuesday, destroying 390 out of 426 detected aerial threats, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
Russia aimed at critical infrastructure sites across the country. The total included seven Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, 18 Kh-101 cruise missiles, five Iskander-K cruise missiles, four guided air-to-surface missiles (Kh-59/69/31) and 392 strike drones of Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas and other types.
Ukrainian forces — including aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, drone systems and mobile fire groups — shot down or suppressed:
- 18 Kh-101 cruise missiles
- 5 Iskander-K cruise missiles
- 2 Kh-59/69 guided missiles
- 365 enemy drones
Six missiles and 27 strike drones struck 22 locations, while debris from downed drones fell at another 10 sites. The Air Force noted that all seven ballistic Iskander missiles evaded interception.
The strikes caused civilian casualties and damage in several regions.
In Poltava, two people were killed and 11 injured after residential buildings and a hotel were hit and caught fire.
In Zaporizhzhia, one person died and five were wounded when drones and missiles damaged a commercial facility, apartment buildings, private homes, and non-residential structures.
