Death toll rises to 10 after Russian missile strike on foreign cargo ship, including Ukrainian harbor pilot
The death toll from a Russian missile strike on a Guinea-Bissau-flagged vessel has risen to 10, including a Ukrainian harbor pilot, according to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).
The ship was leaving a Ukrainian port loaded with corn at the time of the strike. On board were 17 crew members — citizens of Syria and India — as well as a pilot from a USPA branch.
The search-and-rescue operation continued through the night. Authorities said the fire on the vessel was brought under control, and eight crew members were brought ashore.
The number of dead among those on board rose to 10, including the Ukrainian pilot.
As previously reported, Russian forces struck the civilian dry cargo ship GOLDEN LEO — flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau and owned by a Turkish company — with three Kh-59/Kh-69 cruise missiles.
