Former 155th Brigade Commander Luchanov was not on leave when Moseychuk brothers were killed despite his claims

Luchanov had been on leave from June 22 to June 28.

According to investigators, brothers Roman and Maksym Moseychuk were killed July 1 near the training ground of the 155th Brigade in Poltava Oblast. On that day, Luchanov was officially neither on leave nor on medical leave.

During the hearing to determine a pre-trial restriction for Luchanov, prosecutor Serhiy Mirzoyan said battalion commander Oleksiy Dolholenko is suspected of carrying out the killing of the Moseychuk brothers on the orders of his commander, Stanislav Luchanov.

Luchanov denied guilt, saying he had been on leave at the time of the crime and therefore could not have given such orders.

Roman and Maksym Moseychuk were abducted on June 27. That means Luchanov was on leave at the time of the abduction, but on the day of the killing he was supposed to be performing his official duties in the brigade.

Kliuyko said Luchanov then took medical leave from July 6 to July 9. On July 11, he was suspended from duty and listed as absent without authorization (AWOL).

Earlier, Yuriy Babych, deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Military Law Enforcement Service, said that representatives of the service had personally met with Luchanov on July 6 at the unit’s deployment point and questioned him about possible involvement in the crime. During that meeting, Luchanov denied any involvement.

Murders on Kyiv Oblast

Earlier in July, hromadske sources in the Defense Forces and law enforcement said nine fighters from the 155th Mechanized Brigade had been detained on suspicion of abducting two civilian men from Kalynivka, while brigade commander Stanislav Luchanov was declared wanted. Operational Command South later confirmed that Luchanov had left his unit without authorization.

On July 13, law enforcement detained Luchanov in Kyiv. He became the 10th suspect in the Moseychuk brothers case.

During the court hearing on July 14, prosecutor Serhiy Mirzoyan revealed the details of the kidnapping and murder of the Moseychuk brothers in Kyiv Oblast. According to the investigation, Luchanov decided to involve eight soldiers who were subordinate to him in the kidnapping of the brothers.

The suspected soldiers arrived at the brothers' residence in the village of Kalynivka on July 27 and illegally entered their home. According to the prosecutor, they used physical force on the brothers, tied their hands and feet, blindfolded them, and forcibly placed them in cars.

The brothers were then taken to military unit A5001 near Poltava, where they were illegally detained until July 1. According to the investigation, that day Luchanov decided to kill the brothers to hide the kidnapping, and involved the battalion commander, Oleksiy Dolholenko, in this.

According to investigators, the former brigade commander decided to take revenge because one of the brothers refused to apologize to his wife, who also lived in the same settlement. Investigators say a verbal conflict arose after the brothers played loud music and rode motorcycles. When people objected, the brothers allegedly responded with obscenities. Later, when Luchanov demanded an apology to his wife, the men rudely refused.
