Russian attack hits training ground in Kyiv Oblast during defense industry event, killing 6 and injuring dozens
A Russian attack on Kyiv Oblast on Friday killed six people and injured dozens more, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, after reports emerged that a weapons exhibition was underway at the site when the strike hit.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said six people were known to have been killed and dozens injured in the Kyiv Oblast attack. He did not specify the exact location struck by Russian forces.
Earlier, Valerii Borovyk, founder of defense manufacturing company First Contact, said on Apostrof TV that the strike hit a training ground where a weapons exhibition was taking place at the time.
“There was a very serious strike on one of the training grounds where a weapons exhibition was taking place. Our acquaintances were there. … So most likely this was aimed specifically at a specific event. Unfortunately, we have fatalities and destruction,” he said while commenting on the July 24 attack.
The Ukrainian Council of Arms Manufacturers later also reported a strike on a location where representatives of Ukraine’s defense industry were present. The group stressed that the exact location of the participants had not been publicly disclosed.
Serhii Beskrestnov, known as “Flash”, who was recently appointed by the president as an adviser on the development of technological defense sectors, also appeared to have been at the event.
“Friends, thank you, I’m OK. The team is alive,” he wrote on social media.
The Kyiv Oblast Military Administration also confirmed a ballistic strike on the grounds of a private firing range where events were taking place. The Bucha district was the hardest hit. Officials said more detailed information would be released later.
Earlier on July 24, air raid alerts were declared in Kyiv city and oblasts because of the threat of ballistic weapons, followed by explosions in the capital and the surrounding area.
