Ukrainian intelligence identifies Russian brigade behind strike on ATB store in Chernihiv that killed child
Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence has identified the Russian unit responsible for the July 26 strike on an ATB supermarket in Chernihiv that killed two people, including a 10-year-old child, according to its statement.
The military intelligence said the jet-powered Geran drone was launched by Russian troops from battle group No. 3 of the separate GROM Kaskad drone aviation brigade.
On July 26, Russian forces struck the grocery supermarket in Chernihiv with the drone. Two people were killed and 25 others were injured, including children.
According to DIU, the drone was launched from a drone port in the settlement of Navlya in Russia’s Bryansk Oblast. The UAV was equipped with a video camera. Intelligence officers said efforts are now underway to identify the direct perpetrators of the strike.

The separate GROM Kaskad drone aviation brigade operates within Russia’s Aerospace Forces and specializes in long-range drone attacks, including strikes on Ukrainian civilian targets, the intel said.
“The GROM Kaskad brigade has a reputation as a unit for the so-called elite caste of Muscovites — including officials, lawmakers, bureaucrats, regional princes and other filth. The so-called privileged have the opportunity to sign a short-term contract lasting a few months and, without approaching the combat zone, receive the status of a ‘participant’ in the criminal war against Ukraine,” DIU said.
Last year, Ukraine’s intel identified the brigade’s commander as Lt. Col. Ruslan Negrub.
