Ukraine receives new Patriot missiles but needs more, Zelenskyy says
Ukraine has received a small new batch of missiles for its Patriot air defense systems, but needs more to defend against Russian attacks, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Aug. 25.
“A few have arrived. I can’t say how many, but a few. We need more,” Zelenskyy told reporters, according to Suspilne.
Ukraine has also received AIM missiles used by NASAMS medium-range air defense systems, Zelenskyy said. Partners have also confirmed plans to supply Ukraine with several Crotale air defense systems and missiles for them.
Kyiv has repeatedly warned that its stocks of air defense missiles are insufficient, particularly for intercepting Russian ballistic missiles. Zelenskyy previously said Ukraine had received three times fewer missiles capable of countering ballistic threats this year than in 2025, with partners citing fighting in the Middle East as a reason for reduced supplies.
Zelenskyy said on Aug. 23 that Ukraine is seeking 300 Patriot missiles ahead of winter. UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said this week that he plans to travel to the United States in September to push President Donald Trump to give Ukraine access to US Patriot stocks.
