Russian strikes destroy remaining heat and power generation equipment at Kherson plant
Russian forces struck Kherson's combined heat and power plant with four guided aerial bombs overnight on August 27, destroying all remaining heat and power generation equipment at the facility, Ukraine's state-owned energy company Naftogaz reported.
The company said the plant sustained critical damage in the latest attack.
The Kherson plant provides heating to a significant share of residential buildings in the southern Ukrainian city. Naftogaz acting CEO Serhii Fedorenko said the strike risked leaving tens of thousands of residents without a source of heat ahead of the upcoming heating season.
“Russia struck an exclusively civilian facility that provides heat to a significant share of Kherson's residential buildings,” Fedorenko said. “The only purpose of this attack is to terrorize civilians and attempt to deprive tens of thousands of Kherson residents of a source of heat ahead of the heating season.”
The plant had already been struck by a Russian guided aerial bomb on August 26. According to Naftogaz, the facility has come under dozens of Russian attacks throughout 2026.
