Russian ballistic missiles hit Zaporizhstal for fourth time in a month as plant remains shut
Russian forces have struck Ukraine’s Zaporizhstal steel plant with ballistic missiles for the fourth time in a month, damaging equipment and infrastructure at a facility that has been out of operation since August.
Two missiles hit the plant in the latest attack, according to its owner, Metinvest. One worker who did not reach a shelter in time was injured by shrapnel and suffered a concussion.
The company said key production and auxiliary equipment, workshop buildings and railway infrastructure were significantly damaged.
Metinvest says Russia has fired a total of 17 ballistic missiles at Zaporizhstal over the past month.
The plant has been shut down since Aug. 11, when a Russian ballistic missile attack killed seven workers and injured 21 others. The strike hit as employees were making their way to shelters after an air raid alert was issued.
Another Metinvest steel plant, Kametstal in Kamianske, suspended operations after a Russian missile strike on Sept. 5 killed five workers and injured four.
