Russian drone hits Tanzania-flagged cargo ship in Black Sea, killing captain
A Russian drone struck a civilian merchant vessel sailing under the Tanzanian flag in the Black Sea on Sept. 17, killing its captain and injuring three crew members, Ukraine’s Infrastructure Ministry said.
The vessel was heading toward a Ukrainian port when it was attacked, according to the ministry.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet disclosed the name of the ship or the nationalities of the crew. The extent of the damage to the vessel is still being assessed.
Russia has intensified attacks on Ukrainian ports and civilian shipping in the Black Sea in recent months, disrupting traffic along Ukraine’s maritime trade corridor.
Ukraine’s Infrastructure Ministry said earlier this month that 274 civilian vessels had been damaged or partially destroyed since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
