Russia resumes large-scale attacks on Ukraine's energy system, damages Trypilska power plant
Russia carried out its first large-scale combined attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the end of the previous heating season overnight, damaging generating equipment at the Trypilska thermal power plant near Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said.
Centrenergo, the state-owned company operating the plant, said specialists would assess the damage and begin repairs once the security situation allowed. The company did not disclose further details, citing security concerns.
Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said Russia had attacked energy facilities in Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast and other regions with missiles and drones overnight.
“Since the summer, there has effectively not been a single day when the enemy did not attack energy infrastructure. But an attack this massive and combined has occurred for the first time since the end of the previous heating season,” Koretskyi said.
He said 11 Ukrainian regions had come under attack since Tuesday evening. Five people were killed, including a child, and 14 others were injured across the country.
Ukraine's grid operator Ukrenergo reported new power outages in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Sumy and Kyiv oblasts, as well as in the capital.
Koretskyi instructed local authorities to check backup power systems for critical infrastructure and complete outstanding work to install and connect them.
